A nonprofit healthcare research organization relied on modern technology to accelerate the speed at which breakthrough therapies could reach patients. But keeping up with the latest tech offerings proved costly.
As the organization pushed to advance its studies and education practices, it faced a 20% Year-over-Year (YoY) growth rate. Although necessary in order to deliver on the organization’s mission to save and improve lives, the growth resulted in astronomical operating expenses. The organization’s infrastructure lacked the capabilities to manage, process and store the influx of data, which exacerbated the problem.
The client also struggled to update its legacy infrastructure, which continually racked up high maintenance costs, resulting in a three-year Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of $1.15 million. This limited the organization’s ability to invest in improving its processes and left little room for growth.
The client needed a solution that would provide the capacity and cost savings to supplement growth and support continued life-saving research.
While at a technology symposium, representatives from the research organization met with a member of Insight’s Supply Chain Optimization team. Part of the responsibility of the team is to help organizations maximize their IT resources.
After analyzing the client’s existing infrastructure and future-state goals, Insight proposed the use of Dell EMC Isilon Generation 6 hardware and redundant self-healing data protection. This would add capacity to the client’s data storage arrays and provide much-needed room for growth — all while lowering TCO and keeping data secure.
Isilon Generation 6 platforms include all-flash, hybrid and archive storage systems that allow organizations to easily store, manage and protect large sets of data. As a legacy Dell EMC user, the research organization’s adoption of Isilon made for a smooth transition because it offered similar deliverables that didn’t disrupt current operations.
Having scale-out architecture in place enabled the research organization to continue to grow at a 20% YoY rate. It also resulted in 2x greater performance, which empowered the client to expand its research capabilities and make strides in developing innovative treatments.
By eliminating maintenance costs, the client gained a forecasted savings of $765,400 over the next three years — with a significantly lower TCO than its original projection of $1.15 million.
“The cost savings and room for growth that this solution provided made making this decision very easy,” the client told Insight. “The flawless integration and the pace at which we were able to implement the solution has made the process seamless and stress-free."
