4 Ways to Protect Your Clients From Security Risks

18 Feb 2015 by Jessica Hall

When gaining and keeping clients, security is of the utmost importance. With Kaspersky Lab recently reporting that targeted attacks more than doubled from 2013 to 2014, data breaches are a very real threat.

You can efficiently protect your clients from security risks by taking four steps:

1. Design infrastructure to be secure. Build anti-virus, intrusion detection, network and data protection software into the infrastructure to take an integrated approach to security. Integrating high levels of encryption capabilities into the systems can also create the best secure communications for internal (within the data center) or external (with users, clients or partners) communications.

2. Monitor physical environments — or select partners who do. If you manage data centers, monitor them as often as possible — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is recommended. In selecting partners, ensure they do the same, as it will reduce the risk of security breaches.

3. Implement internal controls. Detailed processes such as penetration testing, operational security processes, centralized monitoring and reporting, event logging and advanced data analytics all provide for a more secure environment.

4. Standardize security to increase effectiveness and profit. Clients have different needs, environments and processes. This makes standardizing security difficult for managed service providers (MSPs). Search for tools that offer scalable security and won’t disrupt network performance. Using several security layers — and selecting those that have different approaches, which will help create a variety of layers — can also enhance security for your clients.

These recommendations are just a start, but they’ll help reduce the risk of security threats. Contact a specialist to find out more about how Insight works with MSPs to secure their networks.
