4 Ways MSPs Can Capitalize on Cloud

Global spending on IaaS is expected to reach a compound annual growth rate from 2014 to 2019 forecast at 29.1%, according to Gartner, Inc. However, according to the research firm, the IaaS solution ecosystem is rapidly consolidating around a small number of market leaders.

“The sky is not falling — customers are getting great value out of cloud IaaS [Infrastructure as a Service] — but the competitive landscape is shifting,” said Gartner vice president and distinguished analyst Lydia Leong at the Gartner Infrastructure, Operations and Data Center Summit in Sydney. “Few providers have the financial resources to invest in being broadly competitive in the cloud IaaS market.”

While this forecast sounds desperate, the cloud model offers Managed Service Providers (MSPs) an opportunity to capitalize on one of IT’s hottest market opportunities for small businesses and enterprises alike.

However, migrating to the cloud poses a number of risks that are different from those involved in a typical boxed or on-premises solution — challenges that can threaten the focus, business model and balance sheet of MSPs.
